Dear brothers and sisters
Our Lord Jesus Christ came so that we might have life and have it in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10). This gift of life lies at the very heart of our mission as disciples and of our shared calling to build a civilization of love. As we observe this World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, we are once again invited to contemplate the gift of life and to cherish the earth that sustains it, for they are tangible ways of offering praise to our Creator.

Bishop Marcus' appointment to the See of Leeds by Pope Francis was announced by the Vatican on Monday, 15 September 2014 and he was ordained Bishop and installed as the tenth Bishop of Leeds on Thursday, 13 November 2014. His episcopal motto is Desiderio, desideravi (Luke 22:15) which translates as ' I have desired with desire to be with you '.
As of May 2019, following elections held at the Spring Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, Bishop Marcus was elected Chair of the Department of Education and Formation and as Chair of the Catholic Education Service.
On 22 December 2025, Bishop Marcus was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Middlesbrough. Additionally, on 20 March 2026, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Hallam.
